I. Preparation Vehicle: Park on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, chock the wheels, and lift the vehicle stably with a jack and safety stands. Tools: Socket set, torque wrench, U-joint press, snap ring pliers, bearing puller, rubber mallet, vice with soft jaws. Parts & Materials: New repair kit, new snap rings, lubricating grease, medium-strength thread locker, cleaning agent. Data Reference: Refer to the vehicle service manual to confirm torque values and positioning requirements. II. Remove the Drive Shaft 1. Mark Alignment: Make alignment marks on the drive shaft, transmission output shaft, and differential yoke to prevent imbalance. 2. Disassemble: First remove the U-joint bolts/clamps at the differential end, then remove those at the transmission end. Support the drive shaft and pull it out. 3. Place Properly: Clean the surface and clamp the drive shaft in a vice with soft jaws to avoid damaging the tube body. III. Replace the U-Joints 1. Remove Snap Rings: Use snap ring pliers to take off the snap rings on both sides of the U-joint yoke bores. 2. Press Out Old Bearing Cups: Select the matching U-joint press adapters. Place one adapter against a bearing cup and the other adapter on the opposite side to catch the cup. Turn the press screw clockwise to apply steady pressure and press out the old cup. Repeat to remove all four bearing cups. 3. Clean Thoroughly: Fully clean the yoke bores and the mounting surface of the U-joint cross to remove rust and dirt. 4. Press In New Bearing Cups: Put the new U-joint cross in place, align it properly, and use the press to evenly push the new bearing cups into the bores. Install new snap rings after the cups are seated and check that the snap rings are fully engaged. 5. Lubricate: Inject grease into the U-joint grease fitting (unless pre-lubricated). IV. Replace the Center Support Bearing 1. Remove the Old Bearing: Remove the bracket bolts and use a bearing puller to take off the old bearing (heat the area if necessary). 2. Clean the Mounting Surface: Remove oil, dirt, and rust from the bearing mounting surface on the drive shaft. 3. Press In the New Bearing: Position the new bearing according to the original factory marks and press it in smoothly with a press to ensure a tight fit. 4. Reinstall the Bracket: Put the bracket back and temporarily tighten the bolts. V. Reinstall the Drive Shaft 1. Align Marks: Match the alignment marks made earlier and slide the drive shaft onto the transmission output shaft splines. 2. Connect and Fasten: Install the U-joint bolts/clamps and tighten them alternately and diagonally to the torque specified in the manual. 3. Tighten the Bracket: Tighten the center support bearing bracket bolts to the recommended torque. VI. Inspection and Test Run 1. Visual Inspection: Rotate the drive shaft to check for no binding or abnormal noise; ensure all snap rings and bolts are properly installed. 2. Test Drive: Lower the vehicle and test it at idle speed, low speed, and high speed to check for vibration, abnormal noise, and leaks. 3. Recheck Torque: Retighten all bolts to the specified torque after the test drive. Key Technical Specifications U-joint bolt torque: Approximately 30–50 N·m (varies by vehicle model, follow the service manual strictly). Center support bracket bolt torque: Approximately 35–40 N·m. Snap rings must be fully seated in the grooves without skew. U-joint grease fittings should face the drive shaft side for easy maintenance. Safety and Precautions Always use safety stands when lifting the vehicle; never rely solely on a jack. Apply steady pressure during pressing to avoid impact damage to bearings or U-joint crosses. Inexperienced personnel are recommended to seek professional mechanic assistance to prevent drive system failures and safety hazards.
